In this depiction of a hand holding a blooming lotus flower, we can be reminded of its deep symbolism from the story of Padmapani, an avatar of Buddha. Padmapani is a bodhisattva, which is an earthly being who follows the path of buddha or yoga to attain enlightenment. In this journey of self-realisation, which can seem like it’s journey for oneself, Padmapani becomes a guiding light to others. Padmapani’s learns that her journey towards self-realisation becomes a journey of helping, protecting and guiding others by being (ironically) self-less.
The symbolism of the lotus flower is associated with enlightenment. It grows in muddy water, but its petals remain clean and unblemished. In Buddhism it represents the journey of the practitioner, who starts off life surrounded by chaos and confusion, but through practice and dedication, is able to achieve enlightenment or at very least, a more fulfilling life.
The third eye in the middle of the hand depicts truth, wisdom, insight, intuition, creativity and infinite potential. The colours pink and green symbolise empathy, compassion and being heart-centred while leading from a place of wisdom and love.
